CBT: Compulsory Basic Training
Available 7 days a week at Phoenix Motorcycle Training. See below for a small breakdown of what you can expect when participating in our CBT Course.

Fast Track Training – Full Licence
Fast Track Training is only suitable for those who have previous experience of riding a motorcycle and are only available on set days of the week.
- 1st day: Getting used to the bigger bike & training for Module 1 test
- 2nd day: Road riding ready for module 2 test
- 3rd day: Back-to-back tests of Modules 1 and 2
Flexible Full Licence Training
With our Flexible Full Licence Training, you can choose to spread it over a period of time. If your time is limited, this is the course for you as YOU choose when to do it.
- Motorcycle Theory & Hazard Perception Test
- Module 1: Off Road Training and Test
- Module 2: On Road Training and Test

Do you supply the bikes?
Yes, we have a fleet of new bikes for you to use on the day of your training.
What clothing should I wear?
You will need a strong pair of shoes or boots (not trainers) and suitable clothing for the weather conditions.
What do I need to bring for my training?
You will need to bring with you your UK or NI driving licence, which must be current.
What is a CBT and what can I ride once I have completed it.
The courses normally start at 08:30 and the CBT consists of unlimited training until you reach a safe standard of on-road riding. and is usually completed in one day.
Do I need a Motorcycle Theory and Hazard Perception Test before my CBT Course?
No your CBT just qualifies you as a learner for a two year period and as such you do NOT need to take a theory test
Can I ride a motorcycle with clutch and gears if I took my CBT on an automatic?
First, check that your licence shows Category A provisional. If so, you can ride a 125cc machine for as long as your CBT certificate lasts.
I took my CBT on an automatic scooter. Can I ride a motorcycle with clutch and gears?
Yes, provided you comply with the age and engine size/power restrictions mentioned above, the CBT is normally valid for either type of transmission.
